What’s the purpose of a middle divider in the interior some handbags?

Do you ever notice that a bunch of handbags have a divider in the middle, that splits the interior of the bag into two sections?
And the middle divider will normally be its own pouch with a zipper.

I’m just wondering why handbag designers would do this- It just makes the inside of the bag more confusing, where I’d rather just have one large space.
What do you guys put in the middle divider? What purpose does it serve for you..?
